Tan Care
Prep & Maintain
The key to an even and long-lasting tan is exfoliated and hydrated skin.
- Keep your skin moisturized days leading up to your appointment using a spray-tan-safe moisturizer (I recommend CeraVe, Cetaphil, and Hempz lotion).
- 24 hours prior to your appointment, wax or shave using a razor without a moisture strip and exfoliate your body all over using an exfoliation mitt.
- Pro Tip: First use your exfoliation mitt all over, then wax/shave, and finally use your exfoliation mitt again all over your body.
- Do not use Dove, Bath and Body Works, or Olay products, while prepping for and caring for your spray tan. These brands contain ingredients that not only strip your tan, but leave a film on your skin that the spray solution may not be able to penetrate through.
- Avoid showering the day of your appointment. If you must shower, use warm water only- absolutely no soaps or shaving/waxing.
- Reminder: your spray tan session should be your last spa appointment. Complete all other appointments prior to your spray tan (nails, hair, massages, facials, waxing, etc).
Radiant Road Mobile SprayTans will not be held responsible for undesirable results if proper prep and maintenance steps are not followed.
- Arrive at your spray tanning session free of any barriers: including makeup, deodorant, lotion, and body sprays/perfumes.
- Bring loose, dark clothing to wear after your session. Tight clothing will rub against your skin which may cause an uneven tan. Absolutely no leggings or jeans.
- Bring loose shoes to wear- think flip flops or sandals. No socks/tennis shoes.

What you should wear to session:
- On the yes list- black baggy loose clothing, flip flops. Also please have clean, dry skin — no lotion, oils, or deodorant on.

- Socks, tennis shoes, or white clothing.
What do you offer?
- I offer disposable hairnet, thongs, nipple covers, tanning stickers. You’re always welcome to dress to your comfort! All bodies are supported at Radiant Road!
- Wait the given amount of processing time before rinsing in the shower. Rinse time will be discussed at your spray tan appointment and noted on your post care card. The amount of time is very important for the proper development of the tan.
- Avoid any activities that may provoke getting wet or sweating while your tan is processing. Avoid animal licks, baby licks, water spills, or crying 🙂
- Wear loose, dark clothing immediately following your session and while your tan is processing.
- When your processing time is up, rinse well with lukewarm water only. You may use your hands to guide the bronzers off of the skin while showering. Rinse until water runs clear. NO SOAP during the initial rinse shower.

- Aftercare products are crucial for your tan. Spray-tan-safe moisturizers, soap, and a tan extending lotion will give your glow the love it deserves. I will educate on appropriate products upon consultation.
- Mineral oils, petroleum, alcohol, parabens and sulfates found in most creams and body washes can cause your tan to fade unevenly and prematurely. Be sure to check your product ingredient list!
- Keeping your body moisturized is KEY to a long-lasting tan. Hydrated skin makes for an amazing, long-lasting color.
- Avoid the use of hot tubs, chlorinated pools, and saunas until you are ready for your tan to come off.

The secret to achieving a flawless spray tan glow has everything to do with preparing the skin before a session and maintaining the tan after the session. To ensure your tan is perfect and even, please follow this simple guide:
Exfoliate your skin before the session. The fresh skin cells will form a smooth base that your spray tan will stick to. The fresher the skin cells, the longer the life of the tan. A good scrub and an exfoliating mitt will allow the elimination of all the dead skin cells and impurities on the body. Pay attention to rough areas like the top of the feet, heels, ankles, elbows, knees, knuckles, etc.
Shave, wax and exfoliate the skin at least 24 hours prior to the appointment. It’s important to allow the amino acids to reconstruct as DHA needs amino acids to develop. Also, the pores need time to close before applying the solution. Otherwise, the bronzer can get soaked into the pores.
Do not use lotions, oil-based exfoliating products, gels or waxing/shaving creams on the day of the appointment. These can leave a film and change the pH of the skin.. Do not use any dove products.
Do not wear any existing self-tanner or residue from a former spray tan on the skin.
If you really need to take a shower before the appointment, take it 3 hours prior to the session and rinse only with warm water. The steam can open the pores.
Do not wear makeup, cream, sunscreen, perfume or deodorant.
Manicures, pedicures, facials and massages should be done days before the appointment. Spray tan should be your last appointment.
The application can be done with or without undergarments or a bathing suit. I will provide disposable nipple covers, hairnet, and thong, and nose plugs to use if you wish.
Wearing loose and dark clothes is recommended for after the session. Tight clothing can rub against the tan and remove color on some areas.
THE SKIN SHOULD BE PERFECTLY EXFOLIATED, BARE, DRied, aND CLEAN PRIOR TO YOUR SPRAY TAN. prepare to Radiate post tan.
POST TAN CARE
Wait appropriate amount of time to shower. I will let you know what window of time to schedule in according to skin type, desired look, and type of the solution. This is the period of time required for the development of spray tanning solutions.
For the first shower after development, I recommend not using soap. Rinse the whole body and face thoroughly until the water is clear, lukewarm water temp.
Avoid activities that cause sweating or any contact with liquid during the development period. If it's raining or snowing outside, you should wear long, concealing clothes.
If you have pets or babies avoid getting "licks" to your tan during development time.
If the session takes place in the evening, you should go to bed wearing long, loose clothes to prevent the bronzer from getting on your sheets.
Do not apply cream, makeup or perfume on the skin during the development period.
If you accidentally touch your skin during development, clean your fingers or inner hands with a wet and soapy cloth while carefully avoiding wetting the rest of the hand.
Avoid body washes, lotions, sunscreens with alcohol, parabens, mineral or petroleum oil, or sulfates. Do not apply perfume directly on the areas that have been sprayed. The alcohol present in perfumes can affect the spray tan.
Use soft facial cleansers. Avoid oily or exfoliating ones as well as brushes. Beware of strong anti-acne products that dehydrate the skin!
Do not wax areas where solution has been applied. A delicate shaving may be done occasionally. Use conditioner as shaving cream for a gentler shave.
Moisturize the skin daily with an appropriate lotion. Do not exfoliate the skin for the duration of the tan. When the tan starts fading, it's essential to exfoliate the skin again in order to remove the old tan residue.
Excessive sweating, hot tubs, saunas, long baths and pools can cause a faster fading.
